If you are open to svg based gifs, it is so much easier. SVG is a far different image technology than bitmap. There are no issues with the ghosted edges and it will be crisp at any size. Because it is actually code and not pixels, you can even change a lot of it after it is made. Go to LottieFiles for a large library of free SVG-based animations or its sister IconScout which is where artists sell their animations.... Source: about 2 years ago
