  • Font licensing is ill, please help heal it
Logical alternative for you. 10usd month through corporation is exactly the way Spotify is robbing musicians. Lets not forget these people dont have live performances or merch to fall back to. Check this https://fontstand.com/ its fair subscription font service. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Font licensing is ill, please help heal it
The market evolved into this state. Traditionally fonts were licensed as as software licenses per machine. It was not great but it was a standard. With web there was more opportunity to change price based on impressions. But for big projects - logos, tv ads etc. You almost always need a special license. The problem is to make fonts cheap for solo designer doing local prints where 60usd is a lot vs designer in... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago

On top of all that, now we want to make JavaScript type-safe. So let's add 10 more configuration files, add a compiler, and now we have bullcrap^2. Just like Facebook invented HackLang, Microsoft invented TypeScript, but only companies of this magnitude need such features. • Benchmarking 20 programming languages on N-queens and matrix multiplication
PHP results: Is Hack still popular with PHP people? I was stupid enough to write some scientific code in PHP once so know how slow it can be. But if your going to do try write performant code in PHP use the HHVM interpreter. It's much faster. Hack (https://hacklang.org/) uses that under the hood by default. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
  • If a company's codebase for backend is PHP, is it worh it to join, when you are a fresh graduate and only know C# and Java?
Meta: hacklang.org has the details there. It forked off of PHP ~5 years ago, and is no longer backwards compatible. I believe this is also what Slack uses. Source: 11 months ago
  • Backends with React
Facebook literally created Hack because PHP wasn't meeting their needs at the time. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Why had flutter not replaced react native yet?
Well, yeah, since they generally don't kill popular projects. Hell hack is still getting updates even though no one ever gave a shit about it. Meanwhile Flutter can be cancelled tomorrow because another division made Clutter and they have more "political" pull at google... Source: over 1 year ago
