There are great alternatives. I used Python and Qt to create my file manager [1]. It's a tool that needs to start quickly so Electron was not an option [2]. Fast Video Cataloger is a cheap prosumer cross-platform app that does exactly what you are looking for, but It's not exactly designed specifically for professional videography, so it probably doesn't handle raw formats for example.
