I am currently testing out both the Findster Duo and the Petfon. Neither rely on cell towers so there's no subscription. Both require you to hold a guardian module and your phone in order to track the dog module. Yes. And harder to mine. The reward for miners becomes 6 coins instead of the twelve you receive when proofing (finding) a block. The value does happen right away..
