It's what happened to reddit, having the open source code for reddit didn't really help once they closed it. You could still replace the URL with a proprietary codebase or rewrite some of the code before re-licensing so it's not bullet proof. I think it would be better to collaborate with some existing organisations like disroot or feneas, having a organisation with multiple maintainers is useful if someone decides to quit (which is normal, any contribution is great).
