  • MilkyTracker
Nowadays I use the new remake of FastTracker II https://16-bits.org/ft2.php. It's quite impresive how they copy almost identical the original one. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • MilkyTracker
Also of interest might be this 1:1 remake of FastTracker 2: https://16-bits.org/ft2.php. I’ve only played around briefly but it was exactly as I remember it! FT2 was pretty much my intro to making music, it came on a PC Format magazine cover CD with a a bunch of XM/MOD files and it blew my mind that I could open up these songs and see how they were made! I never got particularly good with it but had some fun... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • trying to use fasttracker has made me respect 90s junglists’ work much more.
I just went on the Fastracker 2 clone website and downloaded the Mac version. Source: over 1 year ago
  • I know nothing about making music, but I want to get a PO. Will I be in over my head?
I think a PO33 is a great sampler and I love it (I made some videos with it) BUT if you've never made any music you'd better start with a DAW like FL or Ableton, Cubase ecc.. I recommend also Fast tracker II (https://16-bits.org/ft2.php) which is free, It's a great piece of software that can achieve a lot. Also if you're interested in cheap solutions for more expensive gear I recommend Michael and his channel... Source: almost 2 years ago

  • DAWs That Support Microtones
Sunvox (https://warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox) has full support for microtonality! Of course the workflow is quite different from other daws (it's a tracker) but it's worth checking out imo. Source: over 1 year ago
  • A love letter to SunVox
So I'm just gushing because this app has eaten my life lately and that's okay. Compared to like, a full blown DAW like Live 11 or something it's not perfect (is Live 11 even perfect?), but for my preference, there are overwhelmingly more positives than there are negatives. Check it out. Hell, throw Night Radio a few bucks even if you get it for free. That's all. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • TX-6 – Teenage Engineering
No need to try as it already exists: Any Linux tablet with Reaper and a couple soft synths and a decent external sound card if needed would do a lot more for a lot less. A good portion of the cost of this device could be justified only if it really had motorized knobs and faders, which are shown in the video but not mentioned among the features; that would be a completely unnecessary gimmick (in such a device)... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
  • Software Trackers?
Late reply, but I would like to recommend SunVox as usual: https://warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Mobile music apps?
I have Sunvox, Caustic 3, and FakeSID on my phone. I don't do that much with them. I really just use them to do music while on a train journey when I don't want to kill my laptop battery. The first two have got desktop versions, so that makes it much easier to refine them when you're back at your computer. Source: about 2 years ago
