I usually have my drive accessible on a windows box and use https://eraser.heidi.ie/ to fill up all the unused space with pseudorandom data at 1 pass. I call that good for my usage. Source: 11 months ago

Use Eraser https://eraser.heidi.ie it overwrites the data; you can set how many times you want it to do. Depending a how big the drive is it could take a long time. Source: 12 months ago

Invisible files: You can use "CleanMyDrive" to eject disks and clean up those files in one go. https://macpaw.com/cleanmydrive However, it's weird that they're causing problems. I use CleanMyDrive2 on all my SD cards and external HDDs before ejecting. Works great and it's free. Source: over 1 year ago

Download CleanMyDrive 2 and install. Grant it access to your SD card. After you transfer any files to you SD card, "clean" your card with the app, before ejecting, to avoid '._' dotfiles everywhere. Source: over 1 year ago
