  1. The most secure Photos app

I have always been worried abou the fact that my photos were not stored on the cloud privately. Meaning anyone with the access to the server could see my photos. I am glad that I found ente. It's end to end encrypted

πŸ‘ Pros:    End to end encrypted|Open-source|Feature rich
    πŸ‘Ž Cons:    Less storage

GnuCash Reviews

Best personal finance software of 2024
GnuCash is simple enough to be used for home finances, but flexible enough to be put to use by small businesses as well. While the software is easy to use, the fact that it's suitable for small business accounting is thanks to the inclusion of a number of extra features that you would not necessarily expect to find – support for payroll management and double-entry...

This popped up on HN sometime ago https://ente.io/. - Source: Hacker News / 14 days ago
  • Ask HN: Alternatives to Google Photos
Hey, we're building Ente[1] as an end-to-end encrypted alternative to Google Photos. If it helps, Ente has been previously discussed on HN[2][3]. We support imports from Google Takeout[4], and we stitch together metadata from their sidecar files to make your library whole. We also support Family Plans[5] and have open source apps[6] for every platform. Let me know if you have any questions, would be happy to help!... - Source: Hacker News / 24 days ago
  • Ask HN: What is your approach for managing personal digital assets?
I religiously use Google contacts. It's the simplest way to keep people contacts up to date on Android. I archive all important documents in specific folders by subject and date. This is backed up to back blaze with restic. https://restic.net/ I use https://ente.io for pictures. I convinced my wife to use it, and she agreed to auto share her photos so I don't nag her for copies. It had simple import from Facebook... - Source: Hacker News / 2 months ago

  • Ask HN: Spreadsheets like Google Sheets but not from Google?
I can highly recommend Ente Photos[0]. It has automatic backup, and a very good replication architecture for maximum reliability[1]. It's also super easy to use and everything is encrypted by default. [0] https://ente.io/. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago

  • Intuits Mint is garbage this year, need other recs for tracking expenses.
Https://gnucash.org/ is a pretty solid free and open source option. The catch being its UI probably isn't as refined as some other options, and I'm not sure how/if online banking connections work, so can be a bit manual. Source: 12 months ago
  • Spending tracking app that meets my needs
Could checkout https://gnucash.org/. Probably not as nice as a UI as some other options, but its quite robust in terms of tracking your finances. It has a budgeting feature, but I never used it. Worst case could use another app just for budgeting and GnuCash for general tracking of the current state of your accounts, and generating reports and such. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Are the GnuCash team all dead?
As of today (2/22/2023), gnucash.org seems to be up and running. Do the young folks still use "woot" as an exclamation of delight or is that already passe??πŸ˜„. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Are the GnuCash team all dead?
I guess PART of my concern is that when you have a blank screen at gnucash.org for too long, it APPEARS to the outside world... People who might wish to consider using and supporting gnucash... that there is a problem that the organization is unable to handle and therefore the question arises "Are the team at gnucash competent or incompetent"? Source: over 1 year ago
  • Are the GnuCash team all dead?
I am a fan of Open Source projects and I've known about GnuCash for some time. I've started an online personal finance course that uses GnuCash, HOWEVER, the gnucash.org site seems to have been down for days or weeks lately. What's up. I thought the pandemic was over and the 'ronavirus was going into obscurity... Am I wrong? Did the team all die off? Are they not taking this seriously? OR... Is there actually...
