#2 - Endless Sky - ALSO inspired by Escape Velocity, but IMO this is more polished Escape Velocity clone and could reasonably be called the modern successor. EXCELLENT space trade/piracy/combat and definitely take some good strategy to get far into the game. Source: 10 months ago

Take a look at Dead Frontier; the series has generally been a top-down shooter but it has a 3D MMO browser top-down shooter game (made in Unity) that’s been running for a decade or more now.
