  • Lignite surface coal mine devouring German farmland. One-third of electricity in Germany is now generated from coal since the natural gas pipelines were cut.
Germany is absolutely not green, on https://app.electricitymaps.com/map you can see that it is always in the yellow, even when its wind production is maximum. Source: over 1 year ago
  • France troubled reactors
During the 2021-2022 winter french npp worked pretty much as usual, then both unplanned and regular maintenance requirement hit during spring, summer, and fall 2022. But for this winter 2022-2023 we are currently fine, we're exporting 10GW right now. And unless we have an abnormally cold end of January or February we will not require any import and will keep exporting a clean energy to our dirty neighbors. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Europe’s largest carbon emitter failed to curb emissions in 2022
That's also the method used in "real time" by Electricity Maps (https://app.electricitymaps.com/map). Uh, at the moment, German's emissions are over 6x the French emissions (261 vs 41 g/kWh)! What a success! Source: over 1 year ago
  • While Canada has fumbled every climate promise, the UK has been hitting its emissions targets. What would it take to catch up?
Compare Ontario to the rest of the world: https://app.electricitymaps.com/map. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Wind generated a record amount of electricity in 2022
Could do better is right. We have ~36GW of installed wind capacity in UK, while Germany embarrasses us with 70GW! Source. Source: over 1 year ago

My first stop is always bookfinder. Doesn't cross-reference every site but it does a good chunk of them. Source: 11 months ago
  • Ideas for a 7 day celebration for my S.O.'s birthday?
If an era (say civil war) go to http://bookfinder.com. Now on the front page click Advanced Search. You can select year of publication. So for civil war I would plug in up to 1900. Source: 11 months ago
  • Where do you find out what a book you’re repurposing is worth?
First you need to learn to grade the book, as value is related directly to condition. Then you can look the book up on bookfinder.com and see what it's worth. But... there's a caveat. There's lots of "script sellers" out there, sellers that don't actually own the book - but which scrape the data, markup the price and offer it for sale, planning to buy it when you do. There's also many utter idiots who will... Source: 11 months ago
