To be fair, the "whole internet" was very different in the early 2000s. This was before social media was really a thing, before internet connection was even a thing for many people. A stream like that would have meant that maybe a few dozen or hundred people got to see you and maybe a portion of your clip ended up on ebaumsworld.com. When the blackout happened, I (and quite a few other redditors apparently) went back to the something awful forums. It's a lot smaller than reddit, a completely different format, and it does cost $10 dollars to register an account... Ended up going Computer Science. Sacrificed my personal life catching up. Make contacts in the industry. Gott an internship via our (poorly underutilized) career center at a major corporation. Learned a lot, and graduated with a CS degree. First job I got from (true story) a random guy on somethingawful.com who flew me across the country for an interview, which I landed.
