And when you do need google, you can always just add `!g` to your search query. There are a bunch of other useful ones [0], my favorite is probably `!w` [0] https://duckduckgo.com/bangs. - Source: Hacker News / 16 days ago
Check out https://duckduckgo.com/bangs you can dump into pretty much any site, Wikipedia, YouTube, Spotify, Google Translate from the DDG search bar if you have a few favorite bangs memorized. Seriously, I'm surprised at how many devs haven't seen DuckDuckGo's bangs: https://duckduckgo.com/bangs I use them all the time for work. !mdn for MDN, !dnab for .NET, !npm for NPM, !py3 for Python3 docs, !debman for Debian Manpages, !w for Wikipedia, !a for Amazon, !g for Google when you really need it. I guess it depends on which parts they need to be better. From a functionality standpoint I would list, hey.com, fastmail and icloud as better. mailbox.org is better on being a traditional mail host you access using your own client (no wierd bridge app). hey.com and icloud are US hosted if that matters to you. For the semi selfhosted options https://thehelm.com seems like a really good option. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago

There are some attempts: https://thehelm.com/ The problem is that it's not cheap to keep running, if you want it to integrate with the rest of the Net (i.e. Also handle email and such). - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
