Good question. I have yet to find a consistently good source for email addresses that are public. I use datafinder to get email addresses once I have the individuals name and state but you do have to pay per email found. While the email quality is better than any other I have found, it's still just going to be okay. Source: over 2 years ago

Got a great suggestion from user MrPanofsky who recommended fruux. Gonna use calendar Fruux (https://fruux.com) in combination with calendar client OneCalendar (https://apps.apple.com/se/app/one-calendar/id1238379385?l=en-GB). Source: 11 months ago
I ended up using the free tier of fruux.com (CalDAV service) to sync tasks to iOS. Everything looked good in fruux but was off by +1 days in iOS, not sure why but it was an easy fix. Source: almost 2 years ago
Your original question was about how important it is to encrypt contacts and I think it depends. If you just want to keep your data out of Google's data collection hands, then there are other options to store/sync contacts and calendar data (but most are not E2EE).
