Docker Alternatives
An open-source code, Rancher is another one among the list of Docker alternatives that is built to provide organizations with everything they need. This software combines the environments required to adopt and run containers in production. A rancher is built on Kubernetes. This tool helps the DevOps team by making it easier to testing, deploying and managing the...
Heroku vs self-hosted PaaS
All in all Iโ€™m intrigued by Rancher but since I am looking for something simple then it is too advanced and resource intensive for my small side projects. I will however look into Rancher a bit more later and try to deploy one of my projects to it. That will probably be a blog post in itโ€™s own!

  • Why docker swarm is not popular as Kubernetes?
The tooling around Docker Swarm is also pretty good and minimalist, for example, you can use Portainer (which also supports Kubernetes), much like you would use Rancher for easy administration of clusters. - Source: Reddit / 3 days ago
  • Treat Kubernetes Clusters as Cattle, Not Pets
I think that the contradiction here comes from the fact that these tools that are suited for large scale operations, like Kubernetes, end up getting standartized and adopted even by smaller corporations, which have neither the specialists, nor the resources to utilize them properly. Be it because of FOMO (fear of missing out), CV driven development or something else entirely, but I've seen this a number of times... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
  • Panel for VPS
You could use something like portainer for managing dockers via the web (or Rancher for kubernetes if you're into that). For your webserver you could use something like Plesk. I don't know a full solution, though. - Source: Reddit / about 1 month ago
  • Provision a full functional cluster in less than 10 minutes! libvirt-k8s-provisioner
Rancher installation to manage your cluster. (only available for 1.19). - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • Is kubernetes the best way for a beginner to manage microservices across several local machines? Looking for advice/opinions/direction here
The problem to me is that someone needs to maintain it. Setting it up is simple (k3s makes it very simple), but since you depend on it, if it breaks, you are in trouble as debugging is not exactly simple, so better use a supportable ready-out-of-the-box solutions like Rancher, Charmed Kubernetes or kublr incl. Support contract. They make it easier and support contracts are probably cheaper than the ingress costs... - Source: Reddit / 5 months ago
