Another wonderful option is to play Nintendo 3DS games with the Citra emulator. They look incredible. It's safe, as long as you download it from the official website (https://citra-emu.org/). I believe that it's no longer necessary to provide original system files from a real 3DS, but it's highly recommended to do so in order to improve accuracy. Source: 12 months ago

If you go to the https://android-x86.org website and scroll down a bit one of the tasks they've been working on has been to upgrade to a newer (though still not the newest) kernel. This will have a profound effect on hardware support, but in the meantime many PCs with parts released in the last five years don't work as expected unfortunately. Source: about 1 year ago
The only way to see if Android will run is to try and run it. Start with the newest release from https://android-x86.org, write it to a flash drive with Etcher and try booting it - like GNU/Linux distributions like Ubuntu, Android-x86 has a live mode in which you can test it to see if it boots, and if it does test to see if your hardware all works.
