Initially created in 2017, Blockstack was trying to decentralize the internet by building it with blockchain technology and Dapps (decentralized apps). Https://stacks.co is building smart contracts through a separate blockchain which reads and writes to the main bitcoin blockchain. There are others too. These higher expression layers will allow bitcoin to be used in finance with reduced counterparty risk. Bitcoin is money.
