Maybe try Bitsbox? It teaches Javascript by making games. They can share the games with their friends, and it also leaves a lot of room for them to modify the games using what they learned. It teaches a lot of programming skills that are useful later. There is also Google's CS First, that's free and has a lot of different projects. They've been fully autonomous in San Francisco for something like a year, and are piloting in Austin and Phoenix(?) ... Deploying big, bulky models onto hardware constrained environments like an autonomous vehicle with strict system performance limits remain a significant challenge.
