Maybe try Bitsbox? It teaches Javascript by making games. They can share the games with their friends, and it also leaves a lot of room for them to modify the games using what they learned. It teaches a lot of programming skills that are useful later. There is also Google's CS First, that's free and has a lot of different projects. Anyway now go to coursera.org and for $49 a month get the Google IT Support Professional cert. That gives you a discount for the A+ exam. With a sob story Coursera may reduce the monthly fee as well. Anyway you are halfway to an IT degree and can be admitted to WGU. Source: 6 months ago
