  • Newcomer here

  • We are pleased to announce the addition of two new tokens - BCH (Bitcoin Cash) and XMR (Monero) - to our wallet.
🟠BCH was separated from bitcoin in 2017. It was created to solve bitcoin's scaling problems and provide faster and cheaper transactions. Source: about 1 year ago
  • BCH "coin" project as a souvenir - please advise the colors
BCH uses green coloration. Type of green you want can be disputed, but most commonly used green are the RGB color selection when you put the block number BCH split, and the one in bitcoincash.org. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Are you still using cash in Australia?
Maybe you should try electronic cash? Cheap, fast and reliable. Even the miniscule fees (<1/10th cent) are paid by the customer. That is to say there's no surcharge crud to worry about. Look it up: https://bitcoincash.org/. Source: over 1 year ago
  • I’m completely new to this but is it good to buy ?
Any type of bitcoin is still a risky asset. I believe less in holding it like money in a bank, and more is using it as a peer to peer electronic cash system. So my coin of choice is Bitcoin Cash, the version of Bitcoin that aims to be good at that. Source: over 1 year ago

  • Bitcoin is not a Store of Value
    >I think, in the next years, we will see more and more of these useful proofs cropping up. And people will understand the value they're "storing", no pun intended. You could be right, but the first time something like this was discussed was around 2010 [1], and here we are 12 years later, still waiting for widespread implementation of a "useful" proof of work. [1] https://primecoin.io/ was the first result of that. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Mersenne prime M(57885161) verified as 48th Mersenne prime
One of the first I heard of was Primecoin [0], which still seems to be going along steadily. They've actually uncovered a number of world records [1] looking for Cunningham Chains. [0] https://primecoin.io/ [1] https://primes.zone/#records. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago

  • Why not make the proof of work useful?
The closest we've come to what you might call "useful" proof of work is Primecoin, which searched for chains of prime numbers, to the delight of some mathematicians. But it's pretty much a dead coin now. There are also some coins that appear to have solved it, such as SolarCoin, but look closer and you'll find that they are completely centralised. That's not a trade-off Bitcoin can make. Source: about 3 years ago
