There are two Rust projects working on parametric kernels I'm aware of. The first one, Truck[1] seems to have a company behind it, Ricos Ltd, that look like they to know what they're doing[2]. To me, the real strength of Painter is the use of its baked maps to control effects like dust or ambient occlusion, and obviously the ability to paint details directly on the mesh with a workflow similar to Photoshop's. If detailing is what you're after, I'd definitely recommend to try it out, or have a look at it's free alternative : quixel mixer. Source: almost 2 years ago
