Flashing kit features?
By default it uses the command line version of avrdude for simple "read/write this image" operations, but there is a GUI for it as well. As well as an android app (zflasher AVR). Never used the avrdude GUI myself (I prefer command line interfaces to GUIs) though, so can't comment in detail on it. Source: 11 months ago

I would suggest using AVRDUDES GUI. Being able to change fueses and verify code with a click is MUCH easier than messing around with Arduino or AVRdude command line. Source: over 2 years ago

Idk much about PIC, but there are a variety of visual programming options for Arduino-like boards. You can check out XOD. there's also Simulink for embedded programming using visual "blocks", but I think it is a bit of a steep learning curve, and it's quite costly if you can't get a educational license.
