Start by using Overleaf (overleaf.com). Their 30 min tutorial is pretty good, plus it's a no-fuss way to get started without the overhead of having a local installation of some TeX distribution. It should cover most of what you will need for your thesis. You can also look at other thesis templates on Overleaf/Github/The internet in general to look at features you want to implement, etc and learn from there as well. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
For example, this was typeset in LaTeX. I also like how it looks for other things that don't necessarily have jumbles of expressions, like presentations and cover letters. I feel like it gives them a more legit and mature look (compared to.. say.. The Times New Roman size 12 double spaced style from high school lol) but of course this is subjective..
