What's even stranger is that there is an open source project under Apache for Flex. One that even has not only the blessing of Adobe but the support of the company. Their answer has been write an app in Flex and get in compiled to JS. No need for Flash! As for PyQt, that's developed entirely independently from Qt (by Riverbank Computing). The major/minor versions usually line up with the respective Qt releases (since the Qt release introduces new APIs, so a new PyQt release is needed to expose those to Python).
