  • Continuing the Search: Open-Source Alternatives to AWS Services
You can try https://cloudstack.apache.org which has a great UI, CLI, APIs, tooling (Ansible, Terraform etc.) and support for CloudStack Kubernetes Service and CAPC (https://cluster-api-cloudstack.sigs.k8s.io/). CloudStack is also supported by AWS EKS-A. Source: 10 months ago
  • Common OpenSource Cloud OS
CloudStack is cloud computing software for creating, managing, and deploying public as well as private IaaS clouds. It uses several hypervisors such as KVM, vSphere, and XenServer/XCP for virtualization. • what do they use, or how do they do it..
The big providers like AWS, GCP, Azure, all have fully custom solutions for the whole infrastructure. But there exist a number of open source projects which give you the ability to setup the basics (compute, storage, networking) on your own. A few such infrastructure projects I'm aware of: * Cloudstack * Openstack * Eucalyptus. Source: about 2 years ago

  • Free version control for game development handling large projects??
Self hosted Gitlab instance is an option. The only cost is hosting (personally I am using hetzner.com CPX31 instance, 16€ for 160GB a month but you can add 1TB volume for 45€ a month if you need more space). Just keep in mind that Gitlab needs about 8GB RAM to work correctly (it crashes on 2 and is only kinda stable on 4). You can also use an older computer or a NAS if you prefer to go that route. • What Absolute control?
Personally, I use hetzner.com's dedicated line, so I rent a full piece of physical server hardware. AmazonAWS is gross. Source: over 1 year ago

  • Writing a DNS Server in Rust
I went ahead and purchased the domain dnsfun.dev from my registrar for 19.99€, and I purchased a VPS from my cloud provider for about 4.50€ per month. I then logged in to that VPS and ran something like this:. - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago
  • We reduced our annual server costs by 80% by moving away from AWS
We've just finished moving servers from AWS to https://hetzner.com - and saved 10X with servers of double the capability. A great experience so far. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
