Acorn Reviews

We tested 4 photo editing alternatives to Photoshop
Acorn is only available on Mac, so if you’re a Windows user who wants to use Acorn you’re either going to be £1000 lighter in the wallet department, or bang out of luck. Max found the interface outdated, resembling a OSX Tiger era UI, but CPU usage is managed brilliantly resulting in a smooth, responsive experience with no curser lag or rendering delays. 7/10

  • I need a MS Paint alternative for combining images
If you want something with more of a retro feel, I actually like Acorn. It actually reminds me of early versions of Photoshop before Adobe started bloating it into what it is today. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Using: Has() as a CSS Parent Selector and much more
MozJPEG is truly magical. My image editor of choice Acorn added it and I've been using it heavily ever since when I want to share a screenshot of reasonable fidelity but would rather it not be 3.8MB. https://flyingmeat.com/acorn/ I would like to see a decent true successor to JPEG which does stuff like alpha channels, but the annoying extend-embrace-extinguish approach Google used with WebP has turned me off of... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Solo domain game hex map step 1
If I didn't have the art assets that Thorfinn Tait released I would probably use HexKit or Tiled to create the map art and then bring that into Designer or Acorn and add the other necessary components. Source: almost 2 years ago

  • Epub rendering with Pandoc
I write a LOT of documentation in Markdown for $DAYJOB. I normally use Marked2 (not free, but I paid for my license 7-8 years ago) or MacDown (free) to preview them, and to export them to PDF. Both of these programs are specific to macOS, but a web search for "markdown editor" turns up a few dozen others, for other platforms. Most of these will have an "export to PDF" function built into them. Source: 5 months ago
  • MdBook – Create book from Markdown files. Like Gitbook but implemented in Rust
Marked 2 https://marked2app.com/ is a dedicated viewer for Markdown and other text formats, but it's Mac only. - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
  • Getting Tracked Food from WW API
I use Marked2 on macOS which is a rendered but not an editor. I use vim, so I really just want a preview. Marked2 watches writes and automatically scrolls to the most recent write location. You can also customize CSS to get fancy with PDF exports if you want. https://marked2app.com. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Exporting Templates to PDF
You could just open the underlying file with a better mardown>PDF app. If you're on a mac I suggest Marked2, which is very good. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Markdown editor with A4 / PDF live view
If you are working on a Mac you could try Marked 2 . It is not an editor but works with many markdown editors for live editing and preview plus many other features. Source: over 1 year ago
