Because it doesnt have public IP I access it using Tailscale[2]. I especially like the pen, which allows for nice notes and also diagrams. The other nice thing is, that even when I work from some place with bad wifi. I can still download and upload large files because the server is connected to optics. What are some of the competitors in this space? - Gitpod, a SaaS competitor to Codespaces. http://gitpod.io - Coder, which I guess is the more enterprisey self-hosted Codespaces alternative? https://coder.com - This project, Devpod, seems to be a polished experience but not centralized like Coder. - I recently stumbled upon Recode, which looks like a more indie take on the problem. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago

Github stole this whole thing from https://coder.com/ and if you want to replicate this without being tied into their nonsense I would highly recommend it. If you aren't on some form of unix (Mac or linux) something like a remote dev experience is almost required. There is a reason that I refuse to work... Source: about 1 year ago

Coder V2 seems like a cool option. I'm using it now to build out a reproducible developer platform. Super flexible, as it uses Terraform to build out whatever environment you want to provide to developers. Still beta, but seems like it might become a really solid option in this space.
