I don't know what EasyList or uBlock are (i.e., I don't use those), but I got blocked by cnn.com as well. Firefox on Mac. Turns out it was the "I don't care about cookies" extension (automatically accept consent requests). Once I disabled that for cnn, it worked again. Source: over 2 years ago
I have pihole installed and setup and I want to use it with pivpn for only my pc and phone (and maybe one or two more devices.) so I am trying to get it connected on my pc by going into my ethernet settings and changing the manual dns to my pihole. My primary browser is Brave which does block ads that usually appear at the beginning of a video on cnn.com. I would like to use Safari Desktop (Mac Air M2) for sync reasons mostly but no ad blocker I've downloaded can do it. On Safari, I have tested Wipr (paid); AdblockerPlus (ABP); 1Blocker; Block; Adblock; Adblock Pro; AdGuard; DuckDuckGo Privacy; Ghostery; and Ka-Block. None of them stop the ad from preceding... DNS resolution is largely unrelated to your routing tables. The question "why is cnn.com resolving to a 10. address?" can be restated as "why is my nameserver telling me cnn.com is at a 10. address?" followed by "exactly what/where/who is my nameserver??" I tried 4.2.2.2, 8.8.8.8 and 9.9.9.9. I get rid of the ping resolving cnn.com but the hops still go through 10.67.232.1 and the hosts are still alive on the 10 subnet. Source: almost 3 years ago

A little history I was having some internet/dhcp/DNS issues and when I went to ping cnn.com it resolved as 10.0.0.1 Very strange I check the routing table and nothing is set to route there. So I did a traceroute and found that it went from my DFgateway/router of 192.168.X.X to a gateway 10.67.232.1 that ip is a non-routable IP then eventually went to CNN and I was confused.
