I personally have a probably 500 or so print cookbooks - it was frustration with not being able to search that led me to start ckbk. Space and practicality are certainly also important factors. I've seen more than one photo of a domestic disaster where someone's collection of overloaded and precariously balanced stacks/shelves of cookbooks give way leading to an avalanche! A few years ago, when getting ready to launch ckbk (an app a bit like Spotify for cookbook ), I set out to gather hundreds of top 10 cookbook lists from famous chefs and food writers. It was fun, and we build an interesting ranking, but I never quite got around to sharing my own top 10 list, though.
