I haven't used this, as I don't have a need, but https://meetcircle.com/ has been mentioned a few times by people looking to either replace or add to it. It is subscription based hardware, but I'd assess that it'll fit the needs for more tech literate and focused parents looking to manage what their tech savvy kids are into on their computers/devices. For multiple devices (including phones, future laptops or tablets) I'd getting get an external parental control unit. I'm sure there are others out there but Circle is real good. Not only can you set time limit, you can check their activity and restrict sites/apps/content with filters or pause the entire Internet if need be. There's the bedtime and focus time set that you can use. I think the reward system is... Source: over 1 year ago
One of the best moments in my life. Kid was back in his bedroom playing Fortnite with friends (who were online) so he is yelling over the headset. I tell him to shut his door. Okay he responds. Doesn't do it. A few minutes later we repeat this interaction, then we do it again. So, I hit a button that cuts off the XBox from the Internet (I was using a device called the Circle) - the next moment he comes... Source: over 1 year ago
I use Circle (original one by Disney). I have about 20 years of experience of trying different things to limit kids and this is by far the best and easiest. I have the original one, so there are no monthly fees. Source: over 1 year ago
I have had some experience with Circle (https://meetcircle.com/) and really loved the feature set of time-based access control quick block/unblock and DNS reporting that it offers. With my current set-up, I can get most of what I need until screen-time desync's or if I wish to temporarily unblock an app via DNS (adguard is either manipulating the custom rules or turning off all DNS protection) . Personally I run Circle on a VLAN and put the kids there. They have their own Wifi that drops them on this vlan. This lets me know what they are doing and allows me to control what they are doing. I can also pause the internet and kick them offline. You can setup things to allow their devices to still patch themselves off hours but they can't do anything. It gives you a log of their activity. You probably want Circle[0] (a Disney router) that works via ARP spoofing. [0]: https://meetcircle.com/. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
I'm looking for an alternative for Circle. I was looking at AdGuard home but it doesnt seem to have some of the parental controls circle offers in regards to disabling an internet connection to specific devices or working outside the home network as Circle does. An easy to use interface would be great for the wife but not a deal breaker. Source: almost 2 years ago

They had a Circle in place, but the app was installed on the Ipad when I found it, and I knew the passcode to unlock it, so it didn't matter. Originally, I just hid it behind my bed, but they found it a first time, and I got it back a day later. I then hid it in the bookcase in my room, because nobody ever gets anything from there. Taking it a step further, I took a book out from one of those book set boxes, and... Source: about 2 years ago
Maybe invest in a circle device if you are trying to limit things. https://meetcircle.com/. Source: over 2 years ago
I think they are trying to get out of https://meetcircle.com. Source: over 2 years ago
I went down this path in the beginning but I found a better way. I bought a [Circle](https://meetcircle.com/) and installed it on a private VLAN. The kids have their own SSID that's tied to this network. This allows me to control exactly what they are doing. You assign devices to kids and you can do things like pause the internet for a kid. It allows me to see exactly what they are doing and can allow some things... Source: over 2 years ago

I have kids, and I think soon I will be getting a Circle device, https://meetcircle.com/. Source: over 2 years ago
Some routers offer parental controls / tracking features, like the Circle router for example. Most consumer routers offer it, but it's a bit more complicated to set up - unless they've indicated in the past that they're tracking this usage, they probably aren't. Source: over 2 years ago
I found about https://meetcircle.com/ from the NetworkChuck video. It seems to be using ARP poisoning to achieve filtering and monitoring the internet traffic. I wonder if there is any open-source alternative which can run on a Pi or docker container? Source: over 2 years ago
Another option is to install one of those parental control devices, like the Circle. They work by forcing all traffic through their box, which can then block or permit Internet access. It’s a bit ham fisted but it does appear to work. Do your own research before getting one. Source: over 2 years ago
I know it's not the answer you are looking for but check out https://meetcircle.com ,works out of the box, or use apple id family sharing which is free. Source: over 2 years ago
I just gave them their own vlan and installed a circle device on that vlan. It enforces everything for me and I get reports of what they are doing. If they piss me off I can pause their internet with my phone. Check it out. All I did was create a vlan and wireless network for the kids. Tag a switch port with the vlan and plug-in the circle. It does the rest and all the other clans are left alone.... Source: over 2 years ago
