Flash on web is dead , yes. But apart from Ruffle you also have commercial solutions from Cheerp Flash. https://leaningtech.com/cheerpx-for-flash/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
From the point of view of Adobe, Flash is a legacy technology. Simply put, there is not enough business to be made with it at Adobe's scale. It is safe to assume that the Flash team has either left the company or moved to other roles in the meantime. The Flash codebase is gigantic, evolved over decades and probably includes IP with non-obvious licensing restriction (RTMP is an example that pops to mind). Porting... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
There is a company that got Flash working in WASM but they don't have public pricing so it's probably crazy expensive. https://leaningtech.com/cheerpx-for-flash/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
Running on top of CheerpX after plugin got kicked out of the browser, but thanks to WebAssembly + WebGL it is back. https://leaningtech.com/cheerpx-for-flash/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago

Flash did not went away, thanks to the wonders of WebAssembly. https://leaningtech.com/cheerpx-for-flash/. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
Nah, I appreciate the wonderfull work of those WebAssembly people that allowed me to have Java applets, Flash and Silverligh running again in the browser. https://leaningtech.com/cheerpj/ https://leaningtech.com/cheerpx-for-flash/ https://opensilver.net/ Thanks for making the revenge of plugins a reality. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
It will definitly be the new common, by killing Flash et all without comparable tooling, while at the same time offering WASM, it was only a matter of time until we had the revenge of plugins. Basically 10 years wasting time to come full circle. https://leaningtech.com/cheerpj https://leaningtech.com/cheerpx-for-flash/ https://opensilver.net/ All of the three major ones are now back, but it is ok, WASM is great! - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
What do you think of Cheerp, the project linked in a post above? Are there limitations that prevent it from being s replacement to the Flash engine? https://leaningtech.com/cheerpx-for-flash/. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
The point of this technology is generality. It is theoretically possible, given enough work, run Python directly in Wasm. The effort would be, though, Python specific and you would need to start from scratch for every single language. CheerpX allows running unmodified X86 programs, it does not matter if it's Python or something else. It does not even have to be a REPL, for that matter. We use this tech in... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
And eventually WebGL/WebGPU, one step at a time to have full Flash tooling back, and the plugins will be revenged. https://www.opensilver.net https://leaningtech.com/cheerpj https://leaningtech.com/cheerpx-for-flash Looking forward to it. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
They did not fail, politics killed them, the same politics that pushed for WebAssembly, but thanks to the WebAssembly pandora box, they couldn't be more healthy. https://leaningtech.com/cheerpj https://leaningtech.com/cheerpx-for-flash Enjoy. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
