Most of the time, I'm brewing from a recipe kit so I get my target OG from the brewer's instructions. On the off times that I'm going from another recipe I generally use the calculators over at brewersfriend.com . Source: over 1 year ago
When you use software for creating your recipe such as on brewersfriend.com you can select how much, how long, Alpha acid of the hops and when in the proces you add your hops (Boil, FIRST WORT, dryhop, etc). Source: over 2 years ago
It doesn't include the actual recipes in the dataset, but it does have a link to the recipe on brewersfriend.com. I think you can export the recipe to some kind of XML format on there, so if your savvy enough you could code something in python that goes through the recipe links, downloads the XMLs and then puts them inside a DB for analysis. I think most people will recommend a hydrometer which is probably the most accurate, but I had one break on me and switched to a refractometer. With the refractometer you do need to make one extra adjustment for the alcohol content, but it's pretty easy.. I use the calculator on brewersfriend.com. Also, I've found the refractometer to be highly accurate.. When it says there is zero sugar, the drink tastes... Source: almost 4 years ago
I used the Brewing Water Chemistry Calculator on brewersfriend.com. I'll take your advice and skip the baking soda and give it a shot with all the others included. Maybe I can reach out to the extract manufacturer and see if they have a water report available lol. Glad you mentioned that bit because I didn't take that into account. Source: almost 4 years ago
