And most importantly - write it now if you are not already. Don't wait until the end. Write each chapter's headings and sub headings so you can see the "story" (effectively write your contents pages first and fill it in after). Your Introduction can be written now (with high quality figures you have drawn yourself - look at biorender.com if you want them to look really professional), as can a large proportion... Use Biorender for the image abstract! It’s free (might have to pay to export figures, I just take a screenshot of my screen and crop for posters/presentations). There are so many pre-generated images (lab animals, lab equipment, proteins, DNA/RNA, etc.) so it’s perfect for those who aren’t graphically-inclined. Once you use it, you will notice (recognizable art style) it used in lots of high-profile publications.... Source: over 2 years ago

> Where are the polished, powerful design tools for biology User interfaces for biology have drastically improved over the last 10 years. Domain-specific tools like genome browsers, protein viewers, or phylogenetic explorers [1-3] almost all look and feel a lot better than they did in 2012. The biggest exception here is UCSC Genome Browser, which has an old-school design and web technology stack. That said, it's... - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago

The brand Giant Microbes makes plushies for a generic leukocyte (white blood cell) and more specific types like the Macrophage at work. If you are looking for more inspiration, you can look up 2D renders of individual cell types. I would design it based more off the 2D image, give it some eyes and embroider some facial features. If you want to give it personality, one way that immune cells fight infection is for... Source: almost 3 years ago

There are plenty of science and medical illustrators out there, both freelancers as well as some affiliated with institutions. I’d start at that level and see if there Is already someone doing that work at your current employer. Then start looking for freelancers — through professional organizations such as the Guild of Natural Science... Source: about 3 years ago
