  • DotNet on M1 macbook pro
Nah, thereโ€™s plenty of good stuff. Datagrip is really powerful if you want to stay in the jetbrains ecosystem. Beekeeper is strong. Thereโ€™s several others too. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Please help me resolve a missing X server error from WSL2. I know there are posts about this on StackOverflow and other sites. I've tried their solutions and nothing seems to resolve the issue. Please read details below. I could really use some help.
I've also spent a lot of time with this article on beekeeperstudio.io. It walks through similar steps but it doesn't seem to resolve the issue. Up until now, the X server issues were more of an annoyance than anything, but now I really need to resolve them. If you have any thoughts or suggestions I welcome the help. • Thank you everyone - I just overhauled my app to properly support tnsnames.ora
Thanks to your help, I overhauled the connection logic for my app, Beekeeper Studio and launched the updated version earlier this week. Source: almost 4 years ago
  • Ask HN: Why aren't there any real alternatives to Electron?
As the creator of a desktop app (https://beekeeperstudio.io) I can tell you there's no way I'd have been able to do it without electron. No way. Electron let's me provide feature parity for three platforms on a nights and weekends time budget. Plus the whole Vue ecosystem is available to me. - Source: Hacker News / about 4 years ago
  • Why aren't devs making desktop apps any more
Some of us are. I make https://beekeeperstudio.io. I think there's a huge market need for good desktop apps, many folks prefer them to online tools. Bonus: It's never been easier to build a cross-platform desktop app. - Source: Hacker News / about 4 years ago
  • Would you pay for an electron-specific CI / Build service?
I run [Beekeeper Studio](https://beekeeperstudio.io), and building the production apps really really sucks. I use Github Actions. It's about as good as it gets, but it's still not great. Source: over 4 years ago
  • What is best SQL editor ?
I'm the maintainer of Beekeeper Studio. It's pretty good :-). If you remember Sequel Pro on the Mac, that was my inspiration, but cross platform and for all database types :-). Source: over 4 years ago
  • VueJS examples and Projects For Inspiration
Also check out beekeeperstudio.io if you want to see a full open-source & cross-platform desktop app build with vue :-). Source: over 4 years ago
  • Would a one-click database runner for Windows be useful (like postgresapp.com)?
I make Beekeeper Studio, an open source database GUI. When I'm on Windows I always find local development databases to be a pain to manage, but I'm not sure if others feel the same way? Source: over 4 years ago
  • Is Vue enough?
Eg all of the beekeeper studio app is built in Vue - https://beekeeperstudio.io. Source: almost 5 years ago

Summary of the public mentions of Beekeeper Studio

Beekeeper Studio has garnered significant attention within the tech community, positioning itself as a distinguished player in the realm of database management tools. As an open-source SQL editor and manager, the software has received praise for its clean, intuitive interface and feature-rich design that aims to simplify user interaction with databases. Beekeeper Studio supports various databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, and SQL Server, making it a versatile choice for professionals dealing with different data systems.

Key Attributes and Public Perception

  1. User Interface and Experience: One of the defining features lauded by users is Beekeeper Studio's sleek and minimalistic design. This UI approach stems from a deliberate effort to avoid the clutter seen in other SQL editors, ensuring that essential features are easily accessible without overwhelming the user. This balance of simplicity and functionality has contributed to its positive reception.

  2. Feature Set: Users appreciate the comprehensive feature set, including auto-complete, query formatting, native tabs, and efficient query management capabilities, such as saving and reusing queries. These tools are particularly valuable for users whose primary work involves complex querying.

  3. Privacy-Centric Approach: The absence of telemetry or tracking in Beekeeper Studio is a significant point of interest for privacy-conscious users, offering peace of mind in an era where data privacy is increasingly critical.

  4. Community and Development: The community-driven development model further enhances Beekeeper Studio's appeal. It utilizes the Electron platform to achieve cross-platform compatibility, enabling simultaneous updates and uniform functionality across operating systems. This model has allowed for continuous improvements based on user feedback.

  5. Competitive Edge and Comparisons: When juxtaposed with competitors such as DBeaver, DataGrip, or pgAdmin, Beekeeper Studio is frequently highlighted as a robust alternative, especially for those seeking a lightweight, open-source solution without sacrificing essential capabilities. While it shares the open-source ethos of tools like CloudBeaver, its desktop-focused model contrasts with CloudBeaverโ€™s web-based approach.

  6. User Testimonials and Queries: The platform's reputation is bolstered by user testimonials shared across various forums, where it is described as a solid tool, akin to an open-source successor of Sequel Proโ€”known for its intuitive design on macOS. Additionally, discussions around its use of the Vue.js framework in development are testament to its modern architecture and adaptability.

Despite its strengths, some feedback indicates occasional challenges, such as integration in specific environments or during complex deployment scenarios. Nonetheless, the overall sentiment indicates a high satisfaction rate among users who appreciate the thoughtful blend of functionality and simplicity.

In conclusion, Beekeeper Studio has established itself as a formidable entrant in the database management tool space, praised for its user-friendly design, powerful features, and commitment to open-source principles.
