Boardup Modifications

Mellow Boards BoardUp
  1. Turn any normal skateboard into an electric skateboard.
I recently acquired a classic Boardup and now I'm looking at options for upgrading it into an electric skateboard. However, most of the relevant posts on this topic are 2-3 years old, and due to the pandemic, some popular e-motor kits are currently unavailable. I'm looking for a solution that would also allow me to travel with the board abroad when needed since the fold-up feature is so convenient. Two potential options I considered are Revel and Mellow, but Mellow isn't shipping to the U.S. As of currently, and Revel seems to be facing some supply issues. Also, both of these kits seem to prevent the board from closing completely because of the 8.5" space between the back of the Boardup and the hinge. While Boardup offers its own motor, it appears that other competitors might have better options in terms of per specs. My ideal solution would also allow me to travel internationally, so I'm looking for a motor that can seemed to be switched out with a 100Watt battery rather than the 160Watt battery Boardup offers because it is not allowed on commercial flight. If anyone has come across a viable solution to upgrade a Boardup into a reliable e-board that fulfills these criteria, I'd greatly appreciate any insights or recommendations. Even if its just advice for bringing these Boards onto flights in the first place.
