Lots of people are migrating to Lemmy. That’s the one I’ve seen most often, anyway. And it’s the one that the mod team I’m part of is considering moving to since we were threatened by the admins. Apparently it’s a bit difficult to navigate at first, but you find your way around pretty fast. Idk I haven’t explored it yet.

  2. Mass delete your content on social networks and messengers
If Reddit won't let you interact with them through third party apps, take back you content. Use a program like Redact and remove all your comments and submissions. Reddit gets a fuck ton of traffic from search engines using OUR content (submissions and comments) and are now trying to fuck over the only people who made it a decent experience. Don't let them.

A non-profit community site driven by its users' interests
Are you concerned that this may be a turning point not unlike the great Digg migration that destroyed that site and resulted in reddit being where it is today? Alternatives like Tildes and kbin seem to be gaining momentum.

  9. Amazon Web Services offers reliable, scalable, and inexpensive cloud computing services. Free to join, pay only for what you use.
AWS is Amazon's cloud computing and hosting suite and has nothing to do with the Amazon store. It's what many companies use to host their websites, offer scalable network infrastructure, route traffic between their web services, and so on and so forth. I interpreted "Amazon API" as calls to some company that is using AWS's API gateway for controlling access to their API, and what Amazon would charge them for it, which is presumably cost that would be passed on to the customer in some manner if a third party is using said API.

Reddit gives you the best of the internet in one place. Get a constantly updating feed of breaking news, fun stories, pics, memes, and videos just for you.
Reddit absolutely can serve ads via the API, however there is no way for the non-third party apps (ima refer to as real uses) to filter out those, as adding a "promoted" variable to the response will just take us back to the beginning and will cause real uses more headaches having to filter this data, and allow apps like apollo to just filter them out too. In general the rule of thumb is, you don't serve ads on an API, that's the whole point of the API, make it as easy to pull data, without having to filter all the clutter from a web page, and take less bandwidth. What I don't understand is why apollo doesn't use the web GraphQL API, as I can clearly access it and see raw post data. Im certain there is a reason for this, but I don't know what, since I can clearly read the GQL data in devtools networking tab. This "API" also has ads and would be indistinguishable from loading up the reddit.com website, as that is what it essentially is.

People should use Matrix rooms and spaces (groups of rooms, like Discord servers). Don't just use matrix.org as your homeserver, decentralize! You don't miss out on anything if you pick a different homeserver, they sync.
