Improvement Suggestions for Apple’s Music App

Letterboxd Genius
  1. Letterboxd is a social site for sharing your taste in film, now in public beta.
I was that guy in high school that had 30,000 songs on my iTunes, LimeWire was illegal but there also wasn’t an option to pay a monthly fee to have every song at your finger tips like we all do now. All of my friends would plug in their iPods and fill up their storage with new music, we would burn custom playlists onto cd’s to play in the car while driving around. There is no debate that music is a social experience, it brings people together and we need more of that from Apple Music. One suggestion I have is giving it a IMDB / Letterboxd type experience. As of right now we do have a profile that shows our playlists and what we have listened to lately but that is it. For those that know of Letterboxd it is a app where users can rate, diary, make lists, write reviews, see average ratings and share their thoughts in pretty much anyway in the world of film. I imagine a Music app that could be close to the same but the difference being you being able to actually listen to all of those songs which Letterboxd users cannot do with film. We all could have a profile, have friends, rate songs, write reviews and plenty more social features. A “currently listening to” tab that shows what all of your friends are listening to alike Xbox or Playstation’s friends tab that shows what your friends are currently playing.

Genius is the world’s biggest collection of song lyrics and musical knowledge.
Although Rap Genius already does it to a tee, it would be impressive if Apple took its idea and gave lyrics a professional explanation or explanations from the artists themselves. Almost always while listening to a new album I will also have Rap Genius pulled up in my browser and will follow along to the lyrics and look at explanations to the lyrics when if I don’t understand them. Anybody above 40 that wasn’t into Hip Hop when it started I honestly feel that it’s almost like listening to another language for them. My father bless his heart even while trying to listen never understands what most rappers are saying. The clever word play, the slang and the almost constant pop culture, sports and film references go completely over his head. Explaining lyrics on the same platform that users are already listening to their music could help even more people have better understanding or even deeper connections with the artists and music they love.
