Nextdoor is the private social network for your neighborhood.

Put up an ad on craigslist or nextdoor.com free section, freecycle.org, etc, having people come and take whatever they want during a certain set of hours on certain days. That's how I got rid of tons of clothes that don't fit anymore, plus cleared out a friend's apartment after she died. I tried my best to inventory everything/take and post pix of stuff. Come and Grab. Everything Must Go! That type of thing. Waste not. People can use all that stuff for sure, a lot of people struggling due to this economy. Here in NYC, we have free stuff swaps held a few times per month by various organizations. Although of course it's easier to have people come to you and grab rather than having to load stuff in car to donate.
