Being a media player, you can simply download the app from their website kodi.tv and install it. I would recommend their latest stable release V19.5 (Matrix). Third party addons have to be updated by their creators to work with the latest Kodi versions, so it is not recommended to keep Kodi up-to-date everytime a new version comes out as it can break installed addons that haven't been updated. v19.5 will work with all the addons we need. I wouldn't recommend pre-release v20 (Nexus) just yet.

Imo there are pros and cons to both services, either will do what you need, but in honesty if you're brand new to this RD is probably the better option. RD has more users and a larger inventory of cached titles making it more straightforward to use.
