Is there a free non-cloud based word processor you like?

Quoll Writer Obsidian.md
  1. Focus on your words not the interface.
If you really don't want to go down that way, I'd second LibreOffice. You could also try things more purpose built for novel writing like Quoll Writer and yWriter.

  2. A second brain, for you, forever. Obsidian is a powerful knowledge base that works on top of a local folder of plain text Markdown files.
I used to use Scrivener (and sometimes I still do!) but I felt it wasn't quite what I needed for other aspects of writing (world building, timelines etc). Essentially, I was looking for my own Wikipedia. After a few goes with other self-hosted wikis, and a lot of time on the internet, I came across Obsidian.
