I'd suggest trying the sites where you can meet people in your city. For starters, search eventbrite.com or meetup.com for events which you would enjoy. Emphasis on that last part WHICH YOU WOULD ENJOY. Don't go to a pottery/painting class if you have no interest in that, because you'll be the odd one out. It's a lot easier to make friends with people who share similar interests to you and would attend the same kinds of events as you.
