So I have debian machines in two different cities and need to login in (ssh) and share files (rsync) between them. I set up ngrok (ngrok.io which is now ngrok.com), and signed up for their $60/year plan which I thought was a reasonable price. But now they are charging me over $60/month! I only have a couple of endpoints set up and only transfer a few files per week. I need to get away from this solution as soon as possible. Both of my machines are behind a router NAT / firewall....the typical cable modem with router setup, with public IP addresses that *may* change once in a while.

    LXC

LXC by Linuxcontainers.org is a set of tools, templates, library and language bindings. It's pretty low level, very flexible and covers just about every containment feature supported by the upstream kernel.

    - It's not clear to me yet if I need containers...if so I'm looking at linuxcontainers (linuxcontainers.org).

    - For proxy servers if I need one: nginx, or sniproxy -- does this have to be running on a public server space? If so, I do have accounts on dreamhost.com.
