Game recommendations for someone who's never played one before?

  1. "When the price is right, you will play all night."
My personal recommendation would be either Switch or PC. I would only advise Xbox or Playstation if there is a specific game you are interested in which is only available on that console, or if you know people on that console and want to play online. Switch has enough strengths to be worth mentioning, but many people will see advising you play on PC to be a no brainer. The initial buy in costs can be higher, but PC games go on sale regularly, a lot more so than console games do (my info might be outdated, it's been a while since I've owned an Xbox or PS). It's not uncommon to get a game for $10 or less which originally sold for $60+, as long as you're willing to wait a little for it to go on sale. Since you're just starting, you have decades of old games available to you, many of which will be very cheap, and you don't need to worry about the hot new thing that still costs $60-70. If you do go with PC, two resources I recommend are cheapshark.com and isthereanydeal.com. The first will give you a list of what's on sale currently, and it'll check many different online stores so you don't have to check them all yourself. The second allows you to make a wishlist of games you're interested in and it'll let you know if they go on sale. See a game that's interesting but you don't want to pay $40 for it? Maybe it'll be more interesting at $15.
