I (37M) recently got back into the dating pool after becoming widowed a few years ago. I can not believe how demoralizing and depressing it is. Is there anything I can do to make this suck less?

So just look at it this way: every time you have one of those bad dates, that's one less bad date you'll have before you meet Ms. Right. You have a lot of people to sift through, but you'll meet a good person eventually. The odds are in your favor--when you last dated, you were in your 20s and there were a lot more single men than single women. Now in your late 30s, there are a lot more single women than single men. The dating app experience for women is to be bombarded with messages from men--dozens to hundreds a day. It's hard to sift through them all and a lot of the women who are most desirable just give up because of it. That's why most dating apps have more men than women on them. Women just become overwhelmed. You may want to try chemistry.com or eharmony.com, as they tend to have more women than men because they tend to be people looking for relationships, while many dating apps end up being a lot of people looking for hookups.
