But what about practice? (And starting small). On the hardware side, I'd say start with cheap stuff, in Morocco (Rabat) I put everybody on QLC+ & an $20 usb-to-dmx adapter from China. From then on, they can follow amateur groups when they play in small theatre/cafés with any LED fixtures, anything from the most basic setup, you can do better with your laptop, QLC and that adapter. And in the case described here, any laptop will do, no need for a crazy machine.
