Have mercy on yourself and DON'T LEARN BASH. Try https://xon.sh/ -- a python-powered shell. While Bash is downright ugly (and obviously limited) what's most shocking to me about it is that it can't even perform arithmetic. Xonsh lets you do 5123+7234 to get their sum which I have no idea how to do that in bash (and don't even want to know, you probably have to pipe arguments into bc or some bs).
