I use "abcde" cli tool to flac: https://abcde.einval.com/wiki/. It uses cddb or musicbrainz, so little improvement there. Once you've tuned the config file to your preferences, automation makes the time investment per rip pretty low as far as attention and interruption. Cdparanoia setting can take forever to rip, but bit recovery is really good for hard-to-read disks.
