“Block all traffic from the internet” the culprit?

    I strongly err on the side of privacy and security with my own network setup, and I'm not sure that a VPN connection for your Apple and Smart TV makes a lot of sense. If you're worried about privacy, make sure your DNS-over-HTTPS is set up properly, and you should be fine, since your ISP will only see domains names and IPs (in other words, they will know that you're connected to apple.com or netflix.com or whatever, but they won't know anything beyond that point. No subdomains, specific content, etc.). If you're worried about getting hacked/attacked, the benefits of a VPN are limited on that front. Check out ivpn.net and scroll down to the "Do you really need a VPN?" section, they do a pretty good job laying out what a VPN does for you. If you're just using your TVs to watch good ole Netflix, Prime Video, YouTubeTV and the like, you probably don't need a VPN.
