What they said. The connection and data packets are choking at SQENIX's end because the login server is overstuffed with incoming and outgoing connections and has nothing to do with your internet speed at home. If speedtest.net connected you to the FFXIV login server instead of their own you would see a drastic difference in the test. You could have Google Fiber at maximum speeds, but your connection is only as good as the computer you are trying to connect to, which in this case is getting slammed with requests, so a lot of the connections are getting dropped because the demand is so high the hardware can't keep up, and upgrading a data center takes a lot of time and work. Hence, we can pretty much expect 2002 or a myriad of any other connection errors, etc. While trying to connect or sitting in login que since the server center is flooded with requests, dropped connections and lost data packets that it can't handle.
