Tips for Digital Nomading, freelancing, and reducing bills [long post from USA citizen]

Workaway Catchafire
  1. Immerse yourself in local culture and community. Learn, teach, volunteer, help stay and share skills. Get off the tourist trail. Contact tens of thousands of local hosts worldwide.
CAUTION: This lifestyle isn't for everyone and it takes a lot of guts to do this. You're 1/3 there if you've already quit your job and don't know what to do next. You do have to have some sort of skill/trade that can be done by computing. Also there's wwoofing - workaway.info helpx.net, there's also house sitting but I can't find that website. If you go the wwoofing route - your room and board will generally be provided for you but you will have to do some sort of work for the person/family. I don't have too much experience with the wwoofing lifestyle so if that's something you're interested in, go down that path and find a seniored wwoofer for advice.

  2. Use your professional skills to help charities
#8 - if you decide to do this, understand that there are some downsides. Mostly, your relationships from home will weaken, and you will meet a ton of people but those relationships also will be pretty weak. Think of it as a LDR with everyone you know. It will be helpful if you have some online communities you can be a part of, you can also volunteer for an organization remotely catchafire.org - if you need to start setting up like a weekly facetime with family/friends, do that. You've probably gotten in some practice with covid, so keep it going. The truth though, is that as the world opens back up and people go back to their new routines or whatever, they may phase out phoning you. This is why having other communities is good... Just for stability and familiarity. I go back and live with my parents in the USA for a few months so I get to see them in person, I know not everyone has the luxury to do this so keep that in mind.
