  2. Learn around 1,700 kanji and 5,000 vocabulary words in about a one to two years.
[Tae Kim's Guide](http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/) is a free online resource/ebook and also has app versions. The [Bunpo app](https://getbunpo.com/) is pretty decent for only around $30; [Bunpro.jp](https://Bunpro.jp) is a good SRS for memorizing grammar usages; [Kanshudo.com](https://Kanshudo.com) is a bit more of an all-in-one.For free you could always go with [Duolingo](https://Duolingo.com), though a better paid alternative is [LingoDeer](https://lingodeer.com) (which you can usually get a lifetime subscription to for under $100 by using a coupon code).[Ringotan](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Ringotan) is a free Android app, at least at the moment. The creator has made it free for everyone who downloads it during beta. It'll help you with learning how to write kanji. There's also [Kanji Tree](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asji.kanjitree), which is free, and [Japanese Kanji Study](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mindtwisted.kanjistudy&hl=en_US&gl=US). I personally prefer [WaniKani](https://wanikani.com), which teaches both kanji and vocabulary words.
